Work History

11/1/12 to present Working in private practice in own office. Currently seeing children, teens, adults, couples, families and people with addiction issues.

9/1/12-10/31/12 Began transition to own office

2/1/07 to 10/31/12 Hull and Associates P. A. 6700 S. Florida Ave, Ste 29, Lakeland, FL 33813. Kevin Hull bought the practice from Linda Compton. Norma continued as an independent practitioner. Became a Qualified Intern Supervisor during this time. Worked with families, couples, children,teens., Issues seen included anxiety, depression, addictions, trauma, abuse, conduct and behavior problems, marital issues, life transition issues, blended family issues, developmental issues/disabilities self-concept/self-esteem issues and related difficulties.

8/24/04 to 2/1/07 Private Practice with Linda H. Compton P.A., which became Hull & Assoicates when Linda retired. Full-time as of April 4, 2005.
• Population served includes children, adolescents, adults, family, marital/couples, substance abuse recovery and EAP assessment, and older adults.

08/03 – 4/1/05 Therapist and Clinical Supervisor – Sunshine Youth Services
• Individual, group, family therapy for youth sentence to medium security program (adolescent boy and girl programs, Lakeland and Bartow, Florida). Client caseloads ranged from 15 to 20. Groups were a minimum of 2 per day. Active role in treatment planning, treatment team assessments with psychiatrist and working with family and treatment planning.
• Substance abuse assessment and treatment, Supervision of therapists who facilitated treatment and substance abuse education groups.

2003-2004 school year Music therapist Provided by-weekly music therapy subsidized by a grant for disabled children ages infant to 6 years at Achievement Academy, formerly the Child Development Center, Lakeland, FL. Main goals included socialization, academic skills, motor skills and speech skills.

• Therapy sessions for youth in therapeutic foster care, work with biological parents and foster parents. Foster parent education.
• Behavior Modification training attended as part of a grant funded program to help teach techniques to parents.

Internship and Practicum
Graduate school: Practicum at University of Central Florida (1997-2001) clinic, youth, adult, marital and family sessions. Small group practicum done with adolescent youth Bill Duncan Opportunity school, which focused intervention on students who had received repeat suspensions with goals to re-enter regular school population. Internship at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, adolescent in-patient psychiatric treatment. Treatment included group family therapy, group adolescent therapy, Mental Health Status assessment training, individual work, and reports on specialized assigned readings. 1995-2002 In between graduation from UCF and full-time work (2001), applied for jobs, did volunteer work and substitute teaching for 3 months as needed at PACE Center for Girls while they did a teacher search. PACE Center for girls works with troubled youth helping them catch up on school work with the goal to reintegrate into regular school system.

Bonny Method Guided Imagery and Music. May 8, 1992 to 1998 Completed all levels of training to provided 90 minute in depth guided imagery and music therapy.
Volunteer, Talbot House Ministries, Lakeland, FL. January, 1997 to 1998.Worked with Trudy Rankin, R.N., M.A., LMFT (863-682-2810) with a communications groups for formerly homeless men and women who are also working on their addictions recovery. Provided Bonny method guided imagery and music group interventions once/month.
San Pedro Center, Elderhostel, Orlando Fl. Gave workshop on music and imagery for one month programs in 1995 & 1997.

5/1997- 5/1997 Music Therapy Worked for Music Therapy Services, Inc., Jan Barbour, MT-BC owner. 12400 Shawnee Trail, Largo, FL 34644. Worked two contracts in the Lakeland area, a nursing home day treatment program, and a dual diagnosis (addictions and mental illness) treatment program.

1/1995 through Summer 1995 Helped plan and implement grant funded summer youth work program with the Learning Resource Center in Lakeland, FL. Worked with minority and economically disadvantaged youth.

May 1988-December 1995, Music Therapist Winter Haven Hospital. Worked for 5.5 years in the Psychiatric Department, child/adolescent and adult units. Full time for 5 years.Worked part-time in Rehab for 1.5 years, stroke and head injury unit. Group and individual music therapy including development of music therapy assessment to contribute to team assessments.

School year, 1993-94 Elementary Music Educator. St. Paul’s Episcopal School, (now called All Saint’s Academy) worked as a private elementary school teacher (part-time position) Discontinued work to be a full-time at home mom.

1988, on-going Volunteer, Child Development Center (now Achievement Academy). Provided volunteer music therapy services 2x/week during unemployment and returned for end of school picnic activity. Population includes handicapped infants, children up to age 6 and parents.

1987-Feb.1988 Volunteer Coordinator, Lakeland Health Care Center. Lakeland, FL. Built up volunteer resources and coordinated volunteer based activities to improve patient quality of life for nursing home residents.

8/1986-11/1986 Drug and alcohol rehabilitation center located in Bowling Green, Fl. One month intensive training and two months (full-time) employment before the facility closed due to financial problems and buy out negotiations.

1984-1986 Music Therapist Bismarck, North Dakota nursing homes from 1984 until 1986. House staff in Adult residential facility for developmentally disabled adults and handicapped adults (1984). Music therapy at a day treatment program with adults who had spinal cord injuries. Private practice music therapy with a 4 year old who had cerebral palsy.

Internship and Practicums

University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (1976-1983) undergraduate practicums in music therapy included work with developmentally disabled adults and learning disabled children. Six month Practicum at Allentown State Hospital, April to September 1983. Individual, small and large group music therapy with chronic and acute psychiatric patients.
